When looking for the engine serial number on the block the RH lower corner,is that faceing the front of tractor? I gave it a look and on the same side as the brakes on the front corner of block i found f2504,could that be what i am looking for? I am hoping someone can get me a little closer to what i am looking for. I didnt know if what i was looking for would be the conplete serial number or in some factory code or a combo of both. also when i go to the deere dealer and ask for "ASM" what is that? I am very happy to know there is a way to find the serial number on this tractor as i plan on keeping this one.

ASM is Area Service Manager. The engine serial number is stamped on a flat spot below the generator/towards the front edge of the block.Left side of the motor.

Under the generator and just behind the hydraulic pump. Left side of engine if you are facing the radiator.

Thanks a million amtrac, a picture is worth a thousand words.I found numbers at that spot on my tractor but was not sure but now i am. Did they stamp your complete number? I have what looks like a "F" then 2 5 0 4. The letter f has me puzzled. I am thinking a factory code for 14 or 15? That would put the serial number right where i think it should be. I have been looking thru the parts book trying to narrow it down by looking different parts and serial number ranges.

Sorry, but i can't help any more than that. I do know that engine numbers were hand stamped and completed engines were pulled from storage areas and put on the assembly line at random. F could be a number that was not stamped clearly by the guy with the hammer. Don't know if the Dubuque factory ever used letters on the engine blocks.
