4230 FWA - Need Parts Help

I have posted in classifieds but thought I would post here too. Need a FWA switch/wiring harness for a 4230 FWA tractor part# AR 81189....goes in side console gear selector area. Part is no longer available from Deere but need one to replace existing which is broken. Any assistance or lead to someone who might have a new old stock or good used part would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!!

Do you need the switch and harness or just switch

What kind of switch is needed?
An "ordinary" available switch might work here.

Or is the harness completely shot?
You should be able to splice in some wires.

It looks like that switch or similar was used in a number of tractors. It seems hard to believe there is not a service bulletin or info somewhere in the JD system for a replacement or work around. Have you talked to your JD parts and service departments? Have they checked other dealers?

I don't know anything about this outfit but this turned up doing a search for the switch number.

My switch was locked up, and it broke trying to free it up. However, I would like to find a complete harness with switch if possible. Thanks for the reply!

I checked this Aftermarket Supply place and actually ordered one....their website showed 2 available. However, they came back shortly after ordering and said the part is no longer available. Search goes on....

From what the diagram looks----the switch is
nothing more than a DPDT rocker switch.
Unless the wiring harness is completely wrecked,
you should be able to splice in sections of wire.

I believe it is a rotary switch, not a rocker, from available info. I haven't found find any info on steps or ranges in it thus far.

jdcolumbus, do you have a Technical/service manual? That might have some diagnostic info to help identify another switch that might work.

Sorry to be a pain but, Did you actually talk to parts and service people at JD about it? I know it is often just a disclaimer but on line it says "The part AR81189 is no longer available. Contact your local John Deere dealer for other options."

Yes I checked with JD parts at local store. They looked across all their resources including "parts depot" and could not locate any stock.

Ok, JD parts can't find one. Can the Service manager get info out of JD corporate on what to use for, and for to wire, a replacement switch? Maybe you can get contact for a regional rep.

Those switches are pretty complicated and likely "purpose-built", I suspect it's unlikely that any "off-the-shelf" switch will have the exact contact arrangement and degrees of rotation between "stations".

Here's a drawing of the switches for a late 4020 FWA, I wouldn't expect the ones for a 4230 FWA are any less complicated.
