310a Diff lock stuck

I recently acquired a JD 310a backhoe that runs great. I was using it the other day and it seems the diff lock is stuck in the engaged mode. The pedal is in the up position and springs back when pushed down but the diff remains locked. Not sure what the condition of the fluid is in the differential as the shop manual that I have for it doesn't seem to have any info about the fluid type or level. Any insight into diff fluid would be hugely helpful as well as potential causes/solutions to the stuck diff lock.

Thank you kindly.

The differential compartment is the transmission / hydraulic reservoir and has Torque Guard hydraulic oil in it. Checked oil using
the dipstick behind your right heel / foot with engine running at idle. The differential lock is all mechanical. Oil should have
nothing to do with your differential lock problem. It is engaged with a shift collar located between differential and left final
drive. Important to fix, as if you do not it will eventually break the left / splines end of the differential case and then you
will no longer have a differential lock function. I suspect you may have burned / wore off the engagement fork fingers allowing
collar to stay engaged. Shift collar is not being puller back off differential case when pedal is up. I would recommend to pull
left final drive to inspect and repair. DW

Damn! I was afraid of that. I didn't want to have to start tearing things apart just yet. 40 year old tractor problems. HaHa!

It will have a small ring of rust on the shaft were it enters the final drive case, spray some Kroil or some kind of good penetrating oil in that area and tap at the shaft/linkage Gently till you get some movement,,with a little luck it will free up..
