43 B and 2-14 plow

I have a 43 B John Deere and a 2-14 plow do you think I will have any problems pulling a 2-14 in southern iowa with my B? Thanks

Back in the 70s I use to plow with a 43 b and two bottom all day long in 2 gear in a clay field as a kid on the farm for my dad. Back then it was work and the tractor work just fine. Now days it would be fun to plow some but the hard part of it would be to get on the tractor. Man back in them days it was like you were on it and going and now it takes like 3 mins to get up there lol.

It all depends on the ground. I used to have a good-running 1950 B that had to work very hard to pull my #44 2x14 plow in our tight gumbo. Power and traction were both marginal. However, in more normal soil conditions I'm sure it would have been an easy load.

I don't have any weight right now and it's hard to find the origal cast wheel weights I'm thinking about putting that rimguard beet juice in tubes for weight it's something new around here. How much weight per tire do you think I need? The max you can get with rimguard and my 11.2x38 tires is 385 pounds but that seems like to much per side?

In the soil I have on my farm my 35 A is plenty busy in 2nd gear with 2-14s. Back in the day late Bs were pulling 2-14s but I was never around an early B. I have a hunch my 35 A with standard bore and iron pistons has about the same power as a late B.

Not really sure how much weight you can add for traction. In the mid sixty's when I was plowing with the 40B it was my Grandfathers tractor and I know that it had both fluid in the tires and some weights on the rims but I'm not sure of how much. Never thought to ask him. The 40B I have now I just use it for plowing food plots and gardens so I don't have any weights on it but have thought about adding a couple. Sorry that I can't help you with that.

NO not too much and if you have the pressed steel wheels instad of the cast wheel not enough yet. That is if your ground is any where like mine here in Ohio. And 2-14" too much. In my ground you would turn over more ground with a single bottom 14" than with a 2 bottom 12". My 46 B the 2-12was all it wanted in low gear. And your tractor has a 4.5" engine on low compression where later B had a 4 9/16" engine on higher compression, several more horsepower. and the unstyled A was just about equal to late styled B on gas version.
