620 fuel line

I recently disconnected the automatic shut off on my 620 and put in a regular sediment bowl I had to fabricate a new fuel line because I needed one slightly longer. The new one is slightly smaller in diameter than the old one. Tractor starts and runs fine but I have not been able to get outside because of weather. This is a garage/parade tractor and a little grading. Will it be ok as far as power is concerned with he smaller fuel line? thanks
 
what size smaller you talking about? if not going to be pulling where you need the fuel running into carb to keep bowl full it should be ok.
 
1/4"is getting kind of small. Garden tractors are more likely to use 1/4". It will probably flow enough for what you will use it for but if the tractor is going back to the field to really earn its keep, and I know it is not, but if it does it might starve out under a really hard long pull. I would take the time to get the right fittings and fuel line for at least 5/16" line if you do not want to use 3/8".
 
Bob - are you talking about 1/4" ID or 1/4" OD? I don't have one apart to look at, but I think my fuel lines are pretty darn close to 1/4" ID.

In any case, I'd force it to show failure before I replaced it with a bigger line.

I removed the automatic shut-off on my 630, and I was able to use the original line by adding a pipe coupler at the new sediment bulb. All hardware store items.
 
What kind of fittings (connector) does your line have. Mine are not compression not sure what you call them but they are the original kind
 
Bob, I'm still using the original fuel line from the sediment bowl to the carb. I removed the auto shut-off sediment bowl and replaced it with a manual shut-off. I can't remember the details, but I think I added a pipe coupling and it made the fit-up perfect. If I can remember, I'll take a picture of it in the morning. Gotta write myself a reminder note right now.
 
Bob, I took a picture of the fuel line on my 620, which still has the auto shutoff, and also a picture of the fuel line on my 630 which I changed to manual shut off. From the two pictures, you can see that I removed the fitting from the auto shutoff and threaded it into a coupling, then added a short nipple between the coupling and the manual shut off bowl. I was not concerned about it looking original, so if that is an issue you won't want to do it like I did. Another idea - stolen from Tim S. - instead of the coupling, you could use a 1/4 turn ball valve.

The original fittings used "glands" that were silver soldered to the steel line.

They can be unsoldered and reused, and new ones are still available from DEERE (the last time I checked) and various aftermarket sources.

It's not hard stop solder them onto steel brake line to make a new furl line.

The "gland" that goes with 5/16" line (which I'm pretty sure is what your original lines were) is part #E2150R, the nut that goes with it is #A2069R.

BOTH are still available from DEERE, and MANY aftermarket sources (for less $$$).
