using serial # to find tractor history

who could take the serial number from your tractor and find the dealer it was shipped to when it left the factory?

If the tractor was made 55 years ago that will only help so much. If the tractor has been gone out of the family for decades the serial number will be by far the most important piece of information to find it. The JD dealer that sold my family the 4010 that is still here along with grandpa's long gone 3010 went out of business during the mid-1960's and the sale records long lost. Most dealers did not have their relationship end well with their manufacturer regardless of color so when the day of falling out occurred a lot of stuff went into the trash. I heard a lot of stories concerning termination especially when the Case IH merger happened. A lot of history lost permanently.

Two-cylinder club is the only place I know and it is not free. See below.

Two-cylinder does it but you might not get much info. Sometimes tractors were sent to the branch houses and stockpiled before being sent to a dealer so that might be as far as it goes.On my 4010 it listed the date and town in Ohio it was shipped to. There was a book printed for the 530,630,730 and 830's that listed all the serial numbers and where they were shipped. They talked about doing some other models but not enough interest. Tom

I have a 1971 model 4020 I wanted to see where it was shipped when it left the factory

Any idea as to the cost of the book? It would be interesting to know how many of even the 30 series tractors might have been shipped to area dealers if so noted.

that book was put out by two cylinder magazine and has been out of print for a long time, if you scour ebay, craigs, fb, etc etc, sometimes one will pop up. They also made that book for the Unstyled G and the B. i have the 30 series and G book.

It is out of print but cost around $30 if I remember right. I spent a few hours when I got it looking at was shipped to my local area. The local dealer bought 3 630's all consecutive serial numbers. Tom
