Loader plumbing

I know this has been beat to death but can someone post what I need to tie into the rockshaft port for a loader valve ? Also what joystick 🕹 will work any closed center type I?m guessing ?

Utilizing the "search function" on this site will reveal some threads with photos.

Any spool valve with 10-15 GPM capacity that is for closed center hyd system or that will accept a closed center plug will be fine. One could also alternatively return hyd oil to ported hyd filter cover instead of teeing into rockshaft oil return line.

Thanks Jim so which line is the pressure line I
thought was where the t was . I get along with the
search function on here a little worse than the one
on jdparts

Pressure connection is on the right side above flywheel timing cover. Return connection on left side behind filter cover. DW

(quoted from post at 14:07:54 02/06/20) . So the pressure oil comes off the right side tee and returns to the filter cover

Yes that is correct. Pressure oil by line near brake valve & return oil can be routed to ported filter cover or rockshaft oil return line which ever suits you.

On a Waterloo tractor . The rock shaft line can be used .
On a Dubuque or Mannheim a ported filter cover needs to be used . The Waterloo also has the option of using a Power Beyond Plate/Adapter.

3020/4020 tractors only had power beyond option block offered on tractors built from '69-'72

Oops. You are correct, thanks for catching that . Slipped my mind that this is an earlier tractor .

That would be correct. The return can be connected to the return line as previously shown behind filter cover or direct to cover. Same circuit. I like the way shown cause you have no reason or need to buy expensive filter cover. DW

Another advantage besides cost of ported filter cover is when return is attached to rockshaft return line one doesn't have to contend with hose when changing hyd filter.

I like that idea a lot and then you don?t have to drill
and tap the filter cover . I?m going to write these
Part numbers down so I have them

I have a question about the return oil also. I have plumbed a 4010, and returned the oil through the rockshaft return line and it worked great. now I am trying to plumb a 4020 power shift, and there is all kinds of stuff in the road. on the 4010 run the return under the floor plate, this is going to be a pain with the 4020. has anyone ever returned the oil through the plug in the rear of the tractor? this would be much simpler in my case. the only thing I can see is that it may cause foaming of my oil. the 4010 was a synchro-range

Yrs back installed a JD 158 loader on a '68 4020 powershift & returned oil to sump(bung hole in rear) & it's operated fine with no complaints from tractor owner.
