Can't figure out how to start John Deere 750 utility tractor

Client left his 750 tractor off so I could rebuild hydraulics and mount 375 dozer/snowplow.

Went out to start it...just a click...put the battery on charge overnight, this a.m. it's 5 degrees here in Maine and it clicked.

client is out of town...

Some sort of Safety interlock, seat switch, clutch neutral safety regimen? What am I missing? Lights on dash are on, click seems to come up high near dashboard, not down on the engine....

Also got new hoses and will install. I have to drop the #67 loader off, then mount the plow.

Any hints on this procedure?....looks straight forward...no manuals or other documentation.

Tap the starter with a hammer. Could be moisture in it keeping the brushes from contacting the armature. Often, hitting it with a hammer will shake things loose.

Could be the starter solenoid just clicking and not engaging the starter. The contacts in them get worn down and then act up. If the pto or gear shift are in gear it will not even click. Ours before I replaced the contacts would eventually start after you keep clicking it several times.

I see snow in the picture so it could be that the starter might have gotten some snow in it while the tractor was running and then melted and then froze in the Bendix drive which would prevent the starter from engaging. Use a blow dryer to warm it up and then try it. Used to happen to me a lot on my old snowblowing tractor.

Troubleshoot it.

Put voltmeter across battery, should be 12.6 volts non cranking, would assume 10 or above when cranking.
Do same thing, but move closer to starter.

On our 750 sometimes you have to pull up
on the pto lever a little to activate the
safety switch for it to start.

Several items checked.... My suspicion is aroused. Battery was in backwards...positive ground...of course that's NOT the problem, but it makes me wonder WHAT ELSE is screwed up.

Pulled the starter wire off the starter, jumped from the battery, starts right up.

Need to trouble shoot the wiring from the key to the starter.
Wiring diagram shows straight through two safety switches...also a front mounted PTO has a circuit..will check to see if it has such a thing...don't think so.

Got it started and used it to clean up my driveway...not a bad little rig...Wonder why he wants to mount that stupid snowplow on....how is he going to move stuff, ift stuff with that on? Nevermind...
