JD2010 gas PTO never stops

I have possibly a simple question. A John Deere 2010 gas, the PTO doesn't shut off. From what I've seen it seems to be a simple system. Any insight on what it could be? Thanks in advance

My dad has used his 2010 gas for heavy pto
work for many decades, and there is
internal linkage to adjust periodically.
The pto hand lever runs the pto clutch and
brake.
As others will chime in and say, a service
manual is the first step.

If you don't have a manual there is a copy of SM2035, the service manual for the 2000 series tractors, on line. Clicking this link should get you to the site: https://archive.org/details/John_Deere_Company . it is at the far right in the line row of manuals. Section 140 covers the PTO. It isn't a great scan but it is available and you can download/save a copy if you want. Study it and check out your adjustments, then come back and likely someone can help with details if you need.

IMHO the 2010 pto control linkage is far from "simple". 2010 pto control linkage resembles an erector set. I think for pto to operate while engine is operating that the linkage in photo is stuck IE not disengaging where encircled in green & pto clutch must also be stuck to pressure plate.

Question:
Is the PTO just spinning like its getting dragged along? Can you stop it?

or

If you disengage the PTO does the bush hog continue to operate a normal PTO speeds? (or what ever is hooked to the PTO)

I'm not sure, I haven't made it to the
tractor yet. (Busy with other things)
I'm assuming that it's operating at
full power. I was trying to fill the
what it could be void before diving
into it blindly, thanks!

If it has a live pto with the large lever on the left hand side by the fender these you are never to move the lever with the engine shut off. There is a tiny roll pin holds the lever to the shaft that shears. This is buried deep down inside and a lot of stuff has to come off to get to it. Even an I & T manual is a big help on these. It will show where the hidden bolts are at when removing the rockshaft housing. This may or may not be all that is wrong with it ?

Before you tear it apart you may want to check the adjustment of the clutch as described in the JD manual. The hidden bolts hold the elbow on the supply tube from the front of the transmission. Remove the transmission cover and follow the tube on the right side back under the rock shaft housing to the elbow..

I found the problem, the linkage pin was missing. No sign of it anywhere in the case at all. I have no idea where it went. But replaced it and it works fine now. Thanks for all the help
