4430 engine swap

putting a 466 out of a 4250 in a 4430 , my question is , What will be needed to get the engine fan to line up at the right spot, to use the 4430 radiator
 
I have been thinking about your swap,, I have not done that combination yet,, but I have a couple units out back to look over and maybe help you come up with a solution...was too busy today...
 

Due to the fact that the 6076(466) engine that bw6030 is installing has the timing gear driven water pump that doesn't have cooling fan attached directly to water pump similar to older 466 cid engine. My wild guess is he will need a 4250 radiator & fan shroud for cooling the 6076

The 8820and the choppers stayed with the belt driven water pump all the way trough. You may have to put the timing case cover of the 4430 on the 4250 engine. You cannot put 4250 radiator under regular 4430 hiod. If you do go with a 4630 front. You will have to raise the cab, change radiator, hood, side panels, etc... It seems simpler to make the engine fit. If you compare carefully gaskets, blocks pn between 8820, 4430, 4250 parts book you may comfirm the solution.
 
The 4250 parts catalog is showing a generic 6466tr picture for the gasket set section and it shows the two types of timing gears gasket. The gasket for the belt driven water pump is same as 4430. So you are godd to swap them. Do not forget to swap tach drives as well.
 

I never researched it until briefly today but I think 50 & 55 series rowcrop tractor engine blocks with timing gear driven water pumps are not the same. Is that correct? If that's correct then 4250 engine isn't classified as a 6076 as I previously stated.

I believe they are the same. All states ag parts is advertising a block that fit both 4640 and 4660. Sometimes they are wrong.
 
Thanks to everyone for the help, looks like the best solution is to change the front cover and use the 4430 stuff on the 4250 block.

Block part # RE60437 listed in 4250 PC isn't listed in 4255 parts catalog.

I have bought a 4650 with a dead engine. This discussion made me think to replace the water pump with a 4640 one and swap the ting plate fora 46+430 that I have. This will make me feel better about that tractor.
 

IMHO powering a water pump from timing gears so when WP seal fails coolant goes down in engine crankcase wasn't a very ingenuous idea. I had that occur on my 4255 3 times since I purchased it in '93. Attempting to clean weep hole on WP is not a good task for elderly person such as I either.

I am not a fan of the cam driven water pump.. Swapping the front covers would be the way to go..

I don't like that type water pump either PLUS they're expensive.
