Back on Page 12 or 13 I posted on 12/16/19 , a question about engine cylinder liners/sleeve O-rings that were leaking coolant into the crankcase.
Now that it's torn down, I find O-ring failure. Looks as if a razor blade was used to cut the O-rings into segments.with gaps all the way around. They were purchased thru Deere, now several years old. So, Did I get bogus O-rings? Or some chemical reaction with Oil or Coolant caused this? What do I do to assure that it doesn't happen again?
 

I'll recommend to clean o-rig lands then install new o-rings utilizing
liquid dish soap or vegetable oil. JD offers liner installation lubricant part # AR54749 @ $30.67
 
Wrong lubricant used in installation. We used plain old Joy dish soap. Can't be scented or antibacterial. Everything clean including your hands.
 
When I did JD wet sleeve engines I was not going to take a chance on what everyone says "will" work. I bought the original JD stuff made for this job. So do you know what was used last time ?
 
Did you use the correct color o ring in the correct groove. It has been awhile but if I remember correctly the orange is for contact with coolant and the black is for contact with oil.
 
Black towards the oil and red towards the coolant.

I remember when I rebuilt my 4010 that I bought extra packs of the o-rings to add another o-ring in the groove used for the weep holes.
 
Also, just a thought, after o rings are in thier grooves, use small clean smooth pick to run under the o ring all the way around the sleeve a time or two.
I worked for vw for a few years and they had problems with wet sleeves leaking from the factory in the 80s and it came down to o rings installed under stress, in other words the o rings were twisted instead of being relaxed and at rest.
Correct application and lubricant is vital as others have said also.
