I had previously ask about my dads 4020 getting stuck in gear and park at same time. It was suggested that it may be the latch in the shift drum. Took the drum apart and the latch is still in good shape. So is my problem now in the top shaft of the transmission?

syncro. does not matter where its at you have to shift to 8th then park so it wont stick

I have had ours stick in park when on a hill. Nice thing about the syncro is when that happens you can pull the lever against a spring and get it into low 1st or rev depending on which way the hill is and move enough to take the pressure off the gears and it will pop out of park. Sounds as if you may have more going on since it does it on the flat too.

I had a 3010 that gave me problems. The whole casting that holds the lever was broken and was moving on that one.

Thought you were going to say buy on oliver! I.look it all over and found no breaks or cracks. My guess it's in the top shaft, the tack has been stick at 7000 hours since it started driving it when I was 10 so god knows how many it has now.

I have been in a 3020 tranny and put a new D range gear in my 8430( dad likes to go from c to d while moving) but was hopeful I would not have to on this one.
