I have a 1952 JD Model R. Had it fully restored a few years back and it gets TLC, being housed year round in a heated shop. Since it is more of a show/parade tractor, it does not get run a lot of hours a year, sometimes sitting months without being started.

Since restoration, both pony and diesel have started and run fine without exception for several years now. However, with fully-charged battery and fresh fuel, as well as new plugs and strong spark at the plug, pony has not started the past 2-3 times I have tried to fire-up the tractor.

It turns over just fine, but does so continuously without trying to ignite.

Any and all suggestions would be very much appreciated.

make sure your gas tank is full(pony motor) mine likes the tank full , starts better. Make sure the check valve in the pick up is free.
 
I agree, make sure your fuel is getting to it. Another thing to make sure of is that your gas is fresh. I had a WC I tried to fire up in the spring. Lots of gas but it sat in the tank over winter. After I went through the plugs, ignition and carb, I put some of the gas from the tank in a coffee can, stood back and flicked a match at it and the match went out in the gas. Ethanol blends can lose their volatility when stored in a vented container like the pony tank or a tank on a WC.
 
On my R the little fuel suction pipe In the gas tank tends to gum up if it sits for awhile. This is the only gas engine on the farm that has a fuel gumming problem if left sit for awhile. Its been awhile but it seems to me I could pull the suction pipe down and out of the fuel mixer (not a carb in my book) fairly easy.

Clean your points, make sure you have a spark.
Make sure the air valve in the carb is not stuck shut, if it is you will have an engine full of gas, and it will never run.
So check your oil level.
 
I tried the suggestions by others regarding the fuel. Apparently that is not the problem. I am now ready to check/clean the points. Any particular pointers you can provide about working with a magnito? Pretty
similar to working with a carburator or are there important differences?

No, I replaced the old plugs, which looked fine, with new ones when this situation first occurred. It hasn't run since that time.
