JD LA starter orientation?

I picked up a JD LA Very hard to get steel metal off starter switch sticking straight out side hole 9 O' clock.
I took starter off and opened it see there is many holes to rotate cover for screws and alignment stud.
None of the hole would allow switch to point at 7-8 O'clock as I see in many pictures.
Right now I have it at 10-11 O'clock witch should allow hood to go on with out hitting.
Does this LA have the wrong starter on it? Can someone tell me? thanks Oldiron29

Sound like my LA that had the starter that way. I think it was a starter off an M or early 40. Since original starters for LA are non-existant I put a starter off A/C WD-45 on it but had to cut hole in right side of hood to get it to work.

I was gonna suggest drilling a different hole in the nose cone for the pin in the case part of the starter, but then the bolt holes that hold the whole starter together wouldn't line up would they. About all you could do is re drill those and tap them if you wanted to go that far.

I don't believe you have the correct starter.

There's a picture of a used LA starter currently for sale at Rusty Acres Ranch. You could also look up the Ridenours and see if they currently have any used starters.

rrLund, I will drill hole as you said. I think the screw holes are there only pin hole is not. I had thought of doing that but thought I should not have to if starter is correct. Most be off an M
It works fine and I have already tweaked the linkage to work as is. So for now it will stay the way it is, much better than the 9 O' clock position it was in when I tried to get the hood what a PITA.

That hole is not made to take the starter out of. You must take all the sheetmetal off the the tractor to get the starter out! When you see the big hole cut on the side of the hood they did it to get the starter out.
