Late Styled B Fender Mounting

My dad has a 49 JD B, square axle, with no mounting threads on top of the axle for clamshell fenders. It only has threaded holes on the front, or back, can t remember, for the mounting brackets on the over the tire fenders. Does anybody know about this and why? Could he put clamshells on somehow?

Thanks,
Robert

The square axle casting should have threaded holes on the top surface same as the square casting on the model 50. If so, the clam shell fenders should have mounting holes to match the axle casting holes.

I think there are brackets reproduced. Check with Kent Kaster at https://www.kkantiquetractors.com

I too have a 49 B w/a square axle. Its an early axle and has NO threaded holes for fenders. Checked for cork plugs and none found.

The very first square axle housings did not have bolt holes on top as you have found out. There is a bracket made to bolt to the front and then put the clam shells on them. Don't know if any are being reproduced or not ? May find some originals on ebay ?
