1939 H hood removal to replace 3 way valve

Decided to replace the sed bowl and rebuild or replace 3 way valve. Any tricks in removing the hood to do so?. I believe I remove the medallion, remove dash, remove all hood top and side bolts, remove steering post cap and pull steering shaft out threw front, remove 4 tank hold down bolts on tank supports and remove hood. Do the front side screens need to be removed? Any tips to avoid problems are welcome. Step by step instructions would be great!! I've never done this on an early styled tractor.

Randy, you have covered about everything, although you probably will want to remove the muffler (and exhaust pipe). Not fun trying to lift the hood high enough to clear the muffler. And you might as well remove the side grills, also. Other than the mounting screws shared with the hood, there are only three more screws per grill, and I think it"s easier to remount the hood without the grills.

But here"s another thought - Deere says you can remove the fuel tank assembly without removing the hood - take a look at this Field Service Bulletin. I"ve never tried it as it requires flexing the hood quite a bit, and I"m not completely comfortable with that, but it might be worth a shot....
