What shape are the 3 "springs" in, key #8, A6121R?

(DEERE still has 'em, this very site has aftermarket reproductions.)

Also, due to wear, it's possible internal parts are striking the cover, knocking it loose, any wear marks that would indicate that?

Usually it's because one of the flat springs on the inside of the clutch pulley that hold the cover on is missing. Or the "T" bolts with the castellated nuts to adjust the clutch are so worn that they stick out enough not to let the cover get fully on. If it's a spring it will have to come out and replaced. The peened ends of the rivets that hold them are in recesses on the outside of the pulley and have to be drilled out to get the broken spring out. I don't know where to get a replacement for the spring or rivet. To replace it you need a piece of thick curved steel that you can clamp on the inside of the pulley with a C-clamp at each end holding the rivet in place on the inside while you peen it from the outside. If it's the bolts you're probably looking at R&R of the whole mechanism. That's why you see so many running around w/o covers. Of course, you just paid a ton of pennies for that new cover and you want that sucker ON. Hope someone has some other ideas for you. Good luck!

On our pulling tractors we drill 3 small holes equally spaced around the clutch pulley. Then tap and countersink them so a small flathead screw fits into the hole. You won't loose one that way.

As stated, check the condition of the 3 spring clips that hold the cover on. Instead of rivets I used countersunk head allen socket screws to hold the new clips in my 730 pulley.

I have been told that the notches in the cover are there to clear the adjusting bolts. It seems like they stay on better that way.

I used countersunk allen head bolts and locking nuts to hold the new spring clips on.

I bought 3 for my 630 seems like they were 25 bucks apiece at the friendly john deere dealers
