What is the best way to put the first reduction gear cover back on. Is there a special angle to hold the cover and slip it on? Thanks for any help.

On my G, I bought some long bolts and cut the heads off to align and hold the cover during installation. Screw them out with pliers to install correct bolts as you go. Hope this helps you.

If it is like my JD 50, you have to move the rear of the cover into position first, then move the front into position. The rear of the cover kind of wraps around the rear portion of the first reduction gear, with part of the cover going on the inside of the gear. That makes a "straight-on" fit impossible.

Old Popper's suggestion is a good one. I cut slots in the ends of the cut-off bolts so a screwdriver will remove them - then you can use a short bolt stub to help with alignment. A full length bolt won't let you make the swing necessary on this situation. The cut-off bolts will keep the gasket in place while you rassle the cover into position.

Your tractor may be different than my 50.
