I have a 1971 4020 with the factory 6 volt batteries and I want to change to 2 12 volt batteries, can someone post a diagram how the cables need to be hooked up, and would you recommend JD batteries or some other brand? Thanks again

Both 12v + go to starter, both - just ground to tractor, if you've got a 12v system.

I've had 3 sets of JD batteries, they've been good. Just put my 4th set in and went with batteries from O'Reilly, ~50 bucks a battery cheaper. If I get two years out of them I'd be ok. The JD batteries typically lasted 3 years on their own, but I could get another 3 years out of them using a battery maintainer over winter's.

I only went cheap on batteries this time as my tractor hadn't run in 3 to 4 years and I just wanted to see if it's go again. After cleaning the IP, it's running like a champ. I'll go back to strongbox next time(I have little faith in O'Reilly batteries, but as of now, they're spinning the tractor over great. Time will tell.
