Jd 4020 restore project

I got a 1967 Diesel Syncro 4020 that has been dismantled down to engine/drivetrain intact.
It is a loss of interest due to medical issues and wish to find a starting point as to what this great machine is worth
to someone willing to take the reigns and put her back together.
All stripped down parts that were purchaseable new from JD (boxes, wrapped, etc, see pics)
Any parts that were discontinued were restored to new condition except cab,& did retain some old parts that were removed.
the only thing missing is the tires and a bolt or two, & I have all manuals including where all parts go, right down to nuts & bolts. Any ideas greatly appreciated.

I guess that an inventory of new parts is in order to help establish a price and that they are of premium quality. Also, you indicated tires are lacking. Are the old tires still
available? Don't know what else may be found that needs addressing. Can't operate it to know if hydraulics, electrical, etc. function properly. It sounds like you are counting
on getting a lot of money out of it but the tractor is probably worth 2,300-2,500 plus a verifiable value of all parts obtained.

I doubt you will get what you spent on parts back out of it. Most people that want to do a complete restoration on a 4020 want a latter model side console. Having a cab adds nothing to the value. A good early 4020 can be bought for $6500-8500. Unless you want to piece it out I doubt you will get half that for the whole project. Tom

Since you have already gone through the trouble to disassemble, box and label the parts. a tractor salvage yard might be a good place to try to sell it.

Unfortunately, basket case tractors don't sell for much, too much risk and uncertainty for a buyer as parts may be missing, plus the time to figure it all out and reassemble it makes it a bit of a "pig in a poke".

I purchased a side counsel power shift that was disassembled for $3000. I knew wide front was worth $750,scv boxes $500[It had 3} fenders if good $500 ,hood was nice so $1000+Owner had passed so nobody knew much just wanted it gone.I sold it to an FFA chapter as a money maker for $3000 picked up.They got tires thru Titan Tire 4-H /FFA Restoration Project and with help from good instructor plus a JD tech gave of his time to help they learned, had fun and made a nice profit. They were lucky motor and trans were both good although for learning purposes they did disassemble things.A nice good running non side counsel sold for around $9K on auction a few weeks ago.My suggestion would inventory exactly what you have purchased.Non running project tractors can start cheap and end up high priced.A salvage yard might give you $2500 tops.Being it is disassembled I would think your best alternative is to advertise and sell what you can .Ebay seems to have several guys trying to sell every part that a 4020 came new with Moral of story it is worth more in one piece than apart.

Thanks and that is fair to say considering anyone's word "that it ran outstanding before" is the difference between trust and price. Tires are the only thing not included old ones are gone, have new rims though (see pic) the forum only allows so many photo's at once for me perhaps being a newbee..and yes all the re-install parts are brand new JD in mint condition, perhaps I will take the time to sort and add it all up, thanks for the help!~

First off sorry about your medical issues.
I agree with everyone else. Parts are worth more than
a disassembled tractor... even a complete tractor many times.
Try advertising it for parts. Many people would be more
interested in specific items than the tractor.
Good luck.

If you have such good records of all the parts, would it make sense to donate it to a school for them to put together and raffle off? Maybe an FFA project? You might get more from the tax deduction than other options.

Sorry to hear about your health. I have a 67 4020
that I love I would be interested in the whole deal if
the price was right and I am in central pa.

Let me know once you come up with a price

Got all parts together now. By parting out just the parts without the powertrain looks like 8-10K...I'll part with the whole package for 5K
