My 530 began having an occasional misfire the other day. Mostly happens under load, such as driving uphill. I believe it to be a spark issue as it smokes when it happens, and has no power loss when it isn't happening. Power comes back strong immediately once it stops. Intervals seem random, as does duration of the issue.
The only thing I can think would have triggered it is the other day I power washed it so I could do some painting, and painted on the engine and other under hood things. That in mind I opened the distributor. It looked like it may have been wet, and the contacts for the plug wires had some blue corrosion. So I lightly sanded them just enough to remove it, and did the same to the tip of the rotor. I checked out the bottom, and it seems as if the points and condenser had not been wet, and look fairly new. Dad says they were new 2 years ago. So I took it out again, and for about 3/4 of a mile it was fine, and then it started again. So I checked the plugs. They seemed decent, but old. I replaced them just for good measure. Same story. No issues for 3/4 of a mile or so, and then it began again.
The fact it waits about 3/4 of a mile to start happening, and the random length of time between occurrences, and random length of occurrences has me stumped. It hasn't actually died from the issue, it just falls on its face and puffs some smoke. Any thoughts appreciated!
