Trying to get the timing perfect on my G but it?s not quite right. It runs good but it backfires once in a while when you start it after it?s already warmed up. It has a delco distributor with electronic ignition.

Using a timing light or just lining up the marks? If using a timing light you need to find true top dead center and time it off of there.

I did static time it and richend it up until I had a puff of black smoke when I snap the throttle. Timing light shows about 7 before when Idling

We find TDC on the #1 cyl. and mark it on the flywheel in line with the center of the starter shaft. That way your looking straight in rather than trying to see what your doing at an angle like your showing. Without going into the motor to find TDC you can remove the # 1 spark plug and watch the piston. When it stops moving forward, use that as TDC. Not necessarily the most accurate but should get you close enough.
