So my 49 model A started acting up recently when I go to start it its barley cranks over like the battery's dead tested the battery and it read 12 volts I'm new to these tractors and need some advice where to go from there battery terminals are tight and made sure they were clean thanks

May have to pull the starter if your terminials are clean and tight. The starter has a switch on top of it that has a stud and contact and its probably bad not getting any contact. If that's not it you need to get the starter checked out it could have bad brushes or a bad armature or bad field coils.

So, how did you test the battery ? Saying 12v is easy, but, a LOAD test will tell the truth. Take it to the local parts store/gas station/ mechanic and have it checked out. HTH

Check your ground cable where attaches to the tractor. Best if is attached somewhere other than the battery box.

What he said. I had that happen on one of my 50's. Ran the cable down and bolted it to the casting around the rockshaft. Problem solved!
