401b PTO Shaft Seal Leak

Hello everyone. Just found this forum after purchasing a 1974 John Deere 401b. The tractor has a pretty bad leak around the pto shaft. Does anyone have any information on what is required to replace this seal? I've been doing some searching online and haven't located much so far.

Is your tractors serial number below or above 339686? It appears early style pto shaft has ball brg & later style has tapered roller brgs. Rear housing should unbolt from trans/diff case. One needs to drain trans oil prior to disassembly. Now would be a good time to check/clean hyd oil sump screen(key 30).

The serial number is above the number you posted. Here is a picture

Sorry not sure why it is sideways.

Seal(key 15) is part # AL56820 with spec's shown below.

Parts breakdown shown below.

I'm reviving this older thread as I need to replace the PTO oil seal (key 15 in TX Jim's post) on my 401C which I believe is the same as this 401B.

My questions:
1) Is this as simple as removing the 3 bolts (key 19) and pulling the housing (key 17B) in order to get to the seal? I assume the bearing pack (keys 22, 23, 24, etc) is pressed into the housing (key 17B) and require special tools and/or methods to get to the seal (key 15).

2) What parts come out with the housing or does it just slide over the PTO shaft that stays in place?

3) Any items to consider before pulling the housing (other than draining the fluid and having the seals ready)?
