I need to remove the rock shaft on 49 J.D. B. Is there anything I should be aware of before I start ?Never removed one before. Thanks for any info.

Mark understated things IMHO. They are heavy and top heavy. Double check all your chain connections and don't work alone. A chain hoist is best, along with a good stout limb. If you've in a building, run a couple of 2-6 or 2-6's over several rafters to distribute the weight. If none of the back cover fasteners are studs, cut the heads off a couple of long bolts that will screw into the holes, one on each side. Gives you something to "hang" it on while you get the real bolts all started. Good luck and take care. Having one of those fall on you is almost always a once per lifetime experience.

Are you removing just the rockshaft or the complete rockshaft housing?

As the others said - the housing is heavy. If you're removing only the rockshaft, make note of how the parts are positioned in relation to each other. Photographs or even scribe marks would be good. I had to take my 50 back apart because I had the rockshaft "clocked" wrong when I got it all back on the tractor.

Thank you all for the info. I have good chains and a good support. going to take rock shaft and power-roll off together. I hope.
