D crankshaft weight

I am working on my dad's D. It has the problem of the flywheel all ways walking off. I found the crankshaft splines extremely worn and some where starting to crack. I got a different crankshaft from a salvage yard. I did not know that there was a counter weight bolted on them until I got to taking it apart and the replacement had it removed. Can I take the weight off one crankshaft and put it on the replacement or will that cause a problem? Thanks Matt
 
I looked at the parts catalog, and was surprised that the weight was not shown with it's own part number.

That being said, I wouldn't worry too much about putting your old weight on your "new" crankshaft, as this is not a "precision balanced" deal, it's simply a counterweight for the RH piston and rod, the counterweight for the LH piston and rod is cast into the flywheel, and flywheels get swapped all the time with no issues, pretty much the same deal, IMHO.
 
I'm unable to give you a definitive answer.......

However, the original JD "D" Parts Catalogues indicate that all JD "Ds" after Serial number # 109944 had the same Crankshaft as well as Flywheel and pistons..........

If it was my tractor and the Crankshafts in question had the same # identification...I would attach the counter weights in your present Tractor to the salvage crankshaft you have...

Year and serial # of your JD "D"

I have a 1931 JD-D that am in the middle of restoring and the counter weight is not only bolted on, but the bolts on my crank shaft are also "welded". Not meant for removal post factory ?? Can upload a picture..
