JD 830 2 cyn power steering pump

I am replacing the oil seals in the power steering pump on a JD 830 Diesel 2 cylinder. How will I determine if the pump shaft should also be replaced??

If it is worn, replace it. It's too hard to get to not.

If the lip seals have worn grooves in either end of the pump shaft you could probably install Redi-Sleave(s) or try setting the new seals at a slightly different position to avoid the grooves. As a last resort put in a new pump shaft or have the pump shaft built up and then turned down to original diameter.

The key slot will most likely be worn. I had a new slot cut in the shaft I had. But it wasn't easy, the shaft is really hard.
