PTO Wet Clutch Lube Question

What kind of lube should I be adding to the PTO clutch on a R? When I dropped the fluid to do some work, I got the unmistakable smell of gear oil from it. Manual says 10-W. I'm not planning on putting a load on the PTO, but time to time it will be engaged to operate the hydraulics. SO what should I be putting in there.

If it's like the newer number series you
could have a bad seal between trans ans
PTO. That would let gear oil into the
pto. My 530 has this issue. Right now I
have hygard in both trans and PTO to
prevent the clutches from being damaged
but best to fix it, as I plan to do to
mine this fall.

When I drained it, the amount i got our was around 2 quarts, the amount that it is supposed to hold. I doubt there is leakage but I think that gear oil may have been put in it at some point and then drained and had 10-40 put in it. Later, I plan to go through the bearings and seals plus clutch plates as long as i have taken down that far, but i was just looking for a good recommendation for lube with the wet clutch.

Not being lazy but for all we use them . If a PTO seal failed, I would just fill the transmission and pto clutch with that Shell Universal transmission hydraulic oil .
