John Deere A oil pump gear end clearance

I don't have an official "spec" at hand (IF there is one), but (IMHO) you can't go wrong with "as little as possible, without binding".

Pretty much the same with any typical engine oil pump.
 
Just use the gasket for it and it will have the clearance's you need. They are not a precision fit after all these years of running anyway. If pressure is low, turn up the adjustment of the filter housing a turn.
 
Don't know about JD's, but a Farmall should have about .001, and it is important. I used plastigauge to check mine and then mad a gasket out of the correct thickness of paper, worked well.
