Hey all,
I'm new here. I have a 51 A I kept from being tossed in the scrap pile. Was ether I went and got it on the day I did or it was gone. The head is trashed and I didn't get a carb with it. So I'm wondering if I can put a 60 head and carb on it. Tractor is rough. But I'm glad I saved it. Always wanted to save one by dragging it out of the woods or saving one from being scrapped. I will paint it at some point. But right now I just want to get it running like new.
 
Glad you saved it (so far). Hope you have an appropriate wallet. I've had my '60' for over 40 years. Farmed it on 1 cyl for the first year. Spent $3, 000 + on a 'refurbish' and it now lives in a heated shop. All the best.

Just making the decision to put the 60 stuff on it our not. It's been living in my shop since the day a brought it home. I had a premature newborn son at home at the time. But he's going to be 3 now. So now I have the time. I know I'll have more into it than I could sell it for. But I didn't buy it to sell it. I wanted to save one. So I brought it home. Goal is to have it running by spring. Then I'll paint it next winter.
 
As said before you can do it and the frame needs to be notched out or reworked in some way. I have seen a couple of them years ago. You really won't gain anything other than a smoother idle.
Unless you happen to have the 60 parts laying around not worth going out and buying 60 parts when you can just buy the correct A parts and have less to deal with putting it back together.
 
Just my two cents, but I would stick with A parts. It would simplify the repair and there are lots of them available.
 
Agreed. I will just be using the A parts to put it back together. Less thinking to do on my part. Also means I know for sure it will run right.
