Well, today I hooked the old ih 1300 sickle mower to the 530 to cut some ditches. As usual I checked the pto fluid before using the pto, and to my dismay was greeted with the smell of the new gear oil I put in the gearbox a couple weeks ago. I know this is a common problem, and have found the needed seal, but I'm just wondering how much of a job it is to get to the darn thing. Do I just have to remove the cover or does the whole rear end gotta come off? On an unrelated note it also seems the fresh gear oil found a place to leak out around the right side brake. Just a gasket there i hope? Any special tools I need besides a complete set of ratchets and sockets and prybars?

The whole rockshaft housing has to come off to access that seal.

Yes some way to lift it will be needed. Too heavy for hand lifting.
