3020 configuration help?

Hello. My dad got this 3020 diesel not too long ago for working in his almond orchard and I just inherited it. Aside from the hastily cobbled together cage to lift the branches over the operator, can anyone tell me anything about the configuration of this tractor. It is a lot lower than the 3020 we had on the dairy when I was a kid. The seat also seems to be a little lower than I remember it being on our old 3020, and the steering wheel seems to be tucked in closer to the cowl as well. Would this have been a standard or utility model?

There were 136 3020 diesel Grove and orchard made from 1964/68 .There were 9 gas models. The exhaust and wide front being turned around made them unique They made 46 4000D that were called Lo-Pro.A few people have replicated these rare tractors.I have omly seen one. Some of the older ones had long streamed line fenders and the operator seat and steering wheel were set low behind the hood. Not as popular as some Hi Crops that were built for clearance basically just the opposite of lo-pros.

I think your tractor is just a 3020 utility that someone homemade fender extentions and floorboards for.I have a 3020 gas utility here. Looks to be in good condition. Mine had the underneath exhaust and I sold it. A better pic or two of the fenders would help to be sure. Tom

Guy north of me had a huge apple orchard.he
ordered a new 3020 diesel orchard .it looks odd
parked beside his 4020 rowcrop

Tom, this was the only pic I got while out at the ranch that shows it very well but you can see that it definitely has fender extensions. They had me scratching my head too. They look like they were professionally made and they are mounted to fenders that I am not used to seeing. The 3020 and 4020 we had, had a flat topped fender that stopped before following the tire down the front side. I have also seen pics of some that had clamshells like the ones that came on some two cylinder tractors but these had me wondering if this was an aftermarket set of fenders.

Get rid of the fender extensions and it looks like a dead ringer for this Utility model.

Looking at the weight to horsepower ratio of this tractor it looks like it might be a good candidate for playing with in the local stock antique tractor pull. They have a horsepower limit of 10hp for every 1000lbs. My model A was always way underpowered.

If it is a special row crop utility there were 354 diesel only tractors.Your picture looks the same just front end is same as row crop but yours is turned around to make them turn shorter.

One other question that maybe you all can help me out with. I took the tractor for a drive and when I went to back it into its parking spot it started shaking really badly. Like there was a fifty pound weight slinging around at pto speed but the pto was not running. I set down the mower and it instantly quit. Raised it back up and it did not happen again. Backed into its spot and shut her down. Any idea what could cause that?

Oh, and I have read that some of the 3020's had a lockable differential. Where would a guy go looking for whatever it is that controls it? This tractor is like a spaceship compared to my model A and my MT. Lol!

I do not think it is a special. All of them were exported and they were built without an engine balencer so likely almost none still exist. The special also had a different seat. I think it is just a utility that someone or some shop added nice fender extentions to. Tom

On the right hand side of platform at the back there will be a heal operated linkage system. If not used they need to be lubricated somethimes.Down is on and touch the brake and the lever should release and come up to neutral position.
