JD L hard starting when hot

I just bought a 1944 L on Monday. After installing new points/rotor/condenser it started right up and could not run any better. I never touched the carb. When I turned it off it was very hard to get it to start again. I cleaned the carb and put a new rebuild kit in it. Didn't solve my problem. Starts easy cold, then very difficult once it has been running.

I have two LA's that start easy regardless of being cold or hot. I have talked with 4 other people this week who have either LA's ot L's and they tell me their machines start very hard when hot as well.

Any idea as to why this is? Seems like a somewhat common problem I am only now learning about.

Thanks

I should have mentioned that this tractor has electric start. 3 of the 4 people I talked to also have electric start.

Valve lash is too tight

I just checked the valves and they were good. Now after I cleaned the carb it's actually starting a little harder! I have to keep cranking with the electric start in 3 second intervals until it fires. Might take 5 tries. Occasionally I get a little backfire out of muffler. I have tried full throttle, no throttle, choke,no choke. Nothing seems to help. Once running it has zero issues. Maybe I just need to figure out it's sweet spot for starting it.

It is a mag with a blue spark, I ordered new copper plug wires last night just in case. I also noticed last night that my timing is off just a bit. DC is supposed to be at the bottom of the peep hole, but mine is just a tad bit lower than that. I am hoping that solves my problem.

Try the mag if that?s not it then try replacing the spark plug wires and/or the plugs. We got an old L that had a similar problem. Now the only problem is the thing burns more oil than a ford truck needs repairs.
