Ok. So I ordered this head gasket (pic below) will this fit my dozer. I installed this head gasket and when I went to start it blew my antifreeze out of radiator cap. Had head check a month ago and was good. No antifreeze in oil either. Was wondering if this was wrong head gasket. 69 jd dozer 450

Maybe , maybe not. What I see is the head gasket numbers in that description do not match the head gasket part numbers (current or subbed) in the JD 450 parts catalog. The 450B head gasket is a different number from the 450, in the JD catalog.

What was the liner protrusion?

I have no idea about your specific application....however,when the same happened to me I compared the old gasket to the hew gasket and the new gasket was not correct...

Bob....

I didnt really measure. Figured new sleeves
it be fine. I do no they where pretty close
to flush. But on the head gasket. I noticed
that the cylinder holes did not come close
to the inside cylinder wall like one would
in a regular vehicle gas engine.they were
like 1/4 inch away which I thought was
wierd. Sorry I'm new at this. But something
is wrong. I take radiator cap off while
trying to start and antifreeze shoots a
foot out of it. So some the compression
leak by is bad lol

So without the old one. How is one to know if I have the right one. Ebay is where I got first on. So I went back in put in the correct part number and it brought up a different one. But it had cross reference numbers going back to the one I already bought lol

Jim. Would you happing to know what the
bore of the cylinder hole in head gasket is
supposed to be? I know it seems like a
stupid question. Just wanna see tomorrow
when I take the head off again if it's the
same

Sorry, I don't know the bore. I am guessing you don't have the proper service manual for the machine. I know at least some other JD manuals have the info on the fit of the head gasket to the liner, also specs on fitting and protrusion of liners, as part of the installation steps.

I would go to JD for my next gasket and ask if their service department would give me a copy of the info related to the fit up.

Why don't you quit mucking around with "may fit" aftermarket stuff and go to a DEERE dealer, armed with the engine serial number and get the correct one?

Looks to me as if the old number was T20040, now replaced by R98461, but I would think the dealership could tell for sure, based on the engine number.

I don't notice either of those numbers on your "mite fit" info.

Also, I HOPE you are planning to get all the coolant out of the head bolt holes, and clean them out and chase the threads before putting the poor thing back together!

Didn't you drain the coolant before unbolting the head???

125863 did cross reference to the r25790
john deere parts number. And yes I drained
it before.Closest JD dealer from me is 4
hours away

Don't know where you are crossing the numbers. I just checked again on the John Deere site. T20040 and R52790 (not R25790) both sub to R98461 for a 450. R98461 does not sub to R125863, or any other number, at this time from what I see on the JD site.

Jim I also went to the John deere page that
someone gave me on her a month ago and
found the dealer closest to me and I tries
to order the
R52790 and there store said not available

As I posted before. R52790 has been superseded by R98461, as shown in the parts catalog. You should ask for the current part number: R98461. Did the parts person mean it was not available from JD; or not available (in stock) at that store? Two different not available scenarios. I expect his computer showed him the current number when he entered the number you gave him. I will say the dealer parts person should have told you the number changed when you asked for R52790.

I don't trust many of the aftermarket interchanges, its like some just grab numbers and stick in their adds. With John Deere I do use some of the alternate parts they sell, when they have them available. (In this case I would go with the OEM gasket) I figure if JD puts it over the counter they must be sure it is right. Are you going to a JD ag (green equipment) or JD construction (yellow equipment) dealer? Sometimes it makes a difference as to whether or not they can get a part, at least I've run into that here.
