My neighbor stopped by this weekend and said the clutch on his 4240 will not release. (Quad Range) He said he can start it in gear and it is not slipping but the pedal will not stop the tractor. Would this be a linkage problem or hyd pressures? Any ideas on what to check would be appreciated. I probably won?t be able to look at it until next weekend

My 4440 did that and the clutch disk came apart It had came unglued and piled up. If you push the clutch down can you stop it with the brakes? Mine I could but it worked the engine.

Check clutch pressure at test port in clutch valve, should drop to "0" when the clutch is fully depressed.
If it does, problem is then for sure a mechanical problem as the others have described.

My 4040 did it and all that happened was the rod slipped out of the linkage lever. All that holds those in there is a cotter pin through a slot. I went to the dealer and told Al I needed whatever held it in there and he came back carrying that little cotter pin.
