JD L/LA propeller shaft guard

Is the propeller shaft guard the same size for both the L and the LA? I am looking at the wider guard for a sickle mower but was told it came off an L. Want to make sure that guard would fit on my LA.

If it came from a styled L it should fit.

Should fit but there were several widths and an odd duck for the la rear pto equipped. Used to be a few places you could buy them reproduction.

The wider one was to accommodate the bolt on "pulley" to run a sickle bar mower. I had one on my LA and I thought it looked better than the thin one. Make sure if you get the wide one you get two pieces of pipe to connect in the middle otherwise it will vibrate some. Rusty Acres Ranch used to cut new pipe and sell them as replacements. I then tapped both ends and bolted it onto the cover. No more vibration and it worked perfectly once I went to run the sickle bar mower to keep the belt in place and line up the pulley.

I ended up buying the cover because I felt it was a good deal. The only problem is the notch where the throttle comes through is not in the center like my LA, but it is on the right side of the cover. There is also no hole for the starter knob. I was told the cover I bought was used with the Hercules engine. My LA has the JD engine. I look at this as an excuse to buy an L with a Hercules!
