I'll try to keep this brief. I finally brought it in for some needed work. One of the things I did was pull the bottom engine plate off to inspect the rod bearings. I could have sworn I started hearing a slight knock last year. With the plate off I could reach up and check 1 of the rods for play. I had to take the sump tube off to check the others. It seemed fine, so I cleaned the sump tube, put a little lock tite on it assembled everything and ran it to test for leaks(one of the things I did was water pump). Well the water pump was a bad casting(coolant leaking through the metal). So I took it back apart while I wait for another. This morning I was out putzing around with it and pulled the dipstick out. I was stunned. The oil is still new. It should be black after running it. It's not pumping oil. What the heck did I do? Yes the sump tube is installed right(cutout at bottom). I didn't use any gasket sealer, so there's no chance of plugged holes. I can't see that it needs priming. The sump tube by the way is the size of 3/4" pipe, and when I use locktight it's not a ton of it, so I can't see that the hole is plugged up. I'm lost. I can't believe it's a coincidence that the pump quit working. I can't loose this tractor. I searched both JD 1050 and Yanmar for this problem and can't find anything. Does anyone have ANY clue about this?

Put a gauge on it and check for oil pressure while cranking. I would not start it until you know it is pumping oil.
Now our 750 oil still will stay pretty clean looking for awhile and it has 2600 ? hrs on it.
My 5105 has 600 hrs and oil stays clean in it !

Well guys, I gotta say you got it right. I was getting 50 lbs. just cranking it. Needless to say I feel a little embarrassed. I've been working on equipment all my life, and I've never seen diesel oil so clean after a change. I've had this thing since '86 and honestly don't remember it being that clean after running it a little after an oil change.
I must be losing it in my age. It's got 1905 hrs. and I run Shell Rotella T.

Well, this helped me do what I've been wanting to for a while now. Switch to mechanical gauges.

Thanks for responding.

You likely cleaned some gook out of the pan when off and that helped keep it cleaner for now.

Yanmar builds one heck of a tough tractor !
