Have JD 490 excavator with what I think is a 4039t in it it is a 1985 +or- a yr? It is getting oil into the radiator none in crankcase These engines where used in alot of Jd tractors also the engine oil cooler for these is part # RE 14448 super ceded by #RE31929 can any one tell me if this doughnut style cooler uses the oil filter to hold it in place with O-rings to seal it or does it have its own fastening components I'm far from impressed with this style oil cooler but apparently it is used on many of JD older engines. Haven't started to take it apart yet would like to understand disassembly better than just looking at the part

The oil filter does not hold it in place. The stud that the oil filter screws on goes down thru it into the block. I guess it could thread out if the oil filter was over tightened. There is an oring that seals the bottom to the block. Tom
