4430 Hydraulics

Just got a 4430 QR.

It has some hydraulic issues. In low, the SCVs, steering, and other hydraulic functions are slow or inoperable. The trans also slips when a load is applied. The problem seems to be intermittent, it works fine until the tractor warms up, and sometimes even when it's hot and the RPMs are high, it will work okay.

I have changed the filter, cleaned the sump screen, and ensured the fluid level is okay.

It seems to me that the primary pump is starved of oil when in low, either the trans pump is bad, or there is an internal leak.

I have read about a pipe that may loosen on the planetary 2 speed drive, creating an internal leak, part #R60523. How does one go about checking if this pipe is the problem?

When that 2 spd pipe fails you loose one side of the hi/low completely..pull the pump drive shaft out the back and see how bad the hex is worn where the pump drives, it's under the top link mount

I pulled the shaft. The hex is worn where the pump rides, but I'm not sure if it is rounded enough to slip. It also does not sit straight in the housing. I have attached photos.

No it was not slipping on the shaft,,but when the pump wears it kinda "Dances" on the shaft,,to make it look a bit like yours

Thanks. I will replace the shaft, even if it's not the issue now, it will be in the future with how worn it is.

What are your thoughts on running a heavier hydraulic oil for the summer, until I can pull the rock shaft housing this fall? Think it will help any?
