It won?t turn off so I have to remove the wires from the alternator or it drains the battery

Trying to decide if it?s worth rebuilding or just throw it away and throw a Declo on it

It IS a Delco, a "CS130", they come in a number of variants, and some require a 50 Ohm resistor in the "excite" lead or the regulator will be destroyed.

What's the history, did it ever work properly, and for an extended period of time?

It IS a Delco. The wire going to the "L" post on the alternator is probably on the same circuit that powers your ignition and thus the problem. To prevent drain, either add a diode, or use a cheap universal ignition switch that has an IGN and a ACC post. Use ACC to excite that CS130 Delco at the "L" terminal. Use IGN for the ignition on the tractor. This way, when you shut the tractor off. ACC and IGN are separated.

Or just go to your local parts house and get a GM oil pressure sending unit and wire it to that. Kicks in to excite the alt at around 5 psi and removes power from the circuit when it drops below that at shutdown. Been doing it that way for decades. Cheap, simple and flawless.

It?s charging 13.4 to 14 volts . But it won?t shutoff it
hums even after you shut the power off to it

The wire that excites or turns the alternator on is turning on and off like it should but something has melted shut or short circuit because I have to take the big wires off or the alternator stays turned on it has just started doing this

It?s worked for over year and it still charges fine it was on the tractor when I bought it the wire that excite it comes from the key it is working but something else has happened because I was working on tractor the other day and I could hear the alternator humming but the key was off so I pulled the big wire off and then it finally shut off
