530 automatic fuel shut off rebuild REVISITED

Well no leaks so far! I just rebuilt the auto shut off since I already had the parts. So many connections to worry about. I like Tim S's idea of replacing the auto shut off w/ an old style manual shut off sed bowl and thank him for the well explained directions as to how to do it. I will utilize the change over in the future. Thanks also to jd2cylman. Never thought to use plumbers thread past w/ teflon tape. I twisted the shut off into the tank and attached the line to the carb to hold it in place while I attached the oil lines to keep it from moving. The crank case did fill w/gas which alerted me to the problem. I drained the oil and changed the filter and oil. Replaced the oil w/ Rotella 15w40 and show great pressure. The 530 shows 3186 hrs on a working tach. Only use the tractor for 1 tractor ride (10 hours)a year. I DID NOT FLUSH THE CRANK CASE OUT of gas but let it drain 2 weeks. Will not flushing create any issues considering my usage?

Randy G,

I still have two 60's with automatic fuel shut off and have taken at least four off other tractors. My theory is if they are working correctly (not filling the crank case) leave them alone, otherwise I just do not trust them. Just finished cleaning and lining the gas tank on my 49 A and used the original sediment bowl and fuel shut off. No leaks and no money spent.
