The one I drove 35 years ago I thought did not turn very short. It seemed clumsy but it was also the first mfwd tractor I ever drove as it was the first sold in my area.I have a 2040 here on the farm that is 2wd drive and has about 7000 hours with no repairs other than two clutches. Tom

The weak link is the front axle and planetaries especially if it had a loader on it. Drain and flush the planetaries grease the u joints and make sure the front axle actually disconnects when put in two wheel drive. The front axle defaults to 4wd if there is a wiring, or release piston problem as it is spring applied and hydraulicly released

Thanks for the input guys. I haven?t seen very many MFWD 2240?s. Maybe that?s the reason. Apparently this one has had a loader on it. He also said the threaded bolt holes that connect the front and rear frames are messed up, and the frame is starting to separate.
