How good were the 316 mowers, what are the weak points of them, I need a 2nd big mower and it has the 46 inch deck, looks to be in good shape but hours are unknown, what do I need to look for here, weak transmissions or hydraulics?

The hydraulics and transmission are as good as those on any garden tractor ever made.

Early 316's had a one-cylinder Kohler engine, and the later production units had an Onan twin.

I had a 316 with the 46 inch deck. Great tractor/mower. Eventually the Onan engine was worn out and I could not get it rebuilt. Could have gotten a replacement engine; maybe I still will.
