My post a few days ago about my 401 B. I bought with a pin hole in one liner. I don't want to change the liners again. I had a couple reply's. Using the correct coolant was recommended. What brand should I be using as far as coolant, with the correct additives? Now I am using Prestone. The green stuff 50%. Stan

Wow! That's the first time I ever heard of a Deere engine cavitating!

I'd use Fleet Rite coolant, pre-charged with Supplimental Coolant Additive DC4-A. Think it's called "Compleat" or something like that. Also buy some test strips, not many, their "Best used by Date" is only a year out. The test strips give you readings on concentration of three chemicals that protect your cooling system from cavitation. Test your coolant every oil change.

If you drove a Ford pickup with an IH built diesel engine in it you would know all about cavitation and SCA's.

Use a good brand of coolant rated for diesel engines.

For the small amount your tractor needs it wouldn't cost much to fill it with ready-to-use "Cool-Gard" from DEERE.
Cool Gard

The coolant you have may be fine ,but you will need the additive and test strips to check it. NAPA sells the additive too. The over the road truck guys know all about this additive ( or should ) if you have any truck dealers near you.

Cavitation is a big problem in Deere Dubuque engines like the 329,219,239 ect. It happens sometimes in the Waterloo engines but not near as often. Most of the time when it happens the rest of the engine needs an overhaul anyways. His tractor is 40 years old and nothing last forever. Tom

The person out of the bottle probably does not have an anti cavitation additive,

I just use JD CoolGuard in everything and their addittive.

Cavitation wrecked the block in a 2520 I bought at an auction sale. A new engine was within a thousand dollars of machining and rebuilding the old one so that's the way I went. Old engine was full of stop leak to try to hide the problem.
