Jd 2555--thinking of buying

Thinking about replacing my older 2640--turning into a money pit and less reliable all the time. I hear that the 2555's are well designed and built, but haven't had the opportunity to use one. So, I am soliciting thoughts from you guys about its strengths and weakness, 2wd vs 4wd and whether the hi-lo is an advantage or the kiss of death. I have one on the 2640 and like it a lot, but it has never given me problems so I not sure if I should waste time looking for one (seem fairly rare on the national iron listing sites for the 2555's I see there) Any thoughts about what an open station 4wd should cost? Thanks

Although the 55 series can have hyd problems JD engineers had worked most of the bugs out of the hyd system. I think you'll like the clutter free operators station due to gearshift levers being more forward making it easier for operator mounting/dismounting of tractor. I think hyd hi-lo is a nice feature giving more ground speed options

Location of tractor has a large brg on price but BUT I'll guess $15,000

2555 with the synchronized trans should have the turbod engine, very similar to a 2755. They are a better cold weather starter and cleaner running than the older models. Heavier front axle and steering as well. Good ones are worth the asking price.

Keep looking a 2555 is just a warmed over 2020,, they all share the same bad Hydraulic issues,,look for a good 5300/5400 or 5305/5405,these don't have any electronic to give trouble, but they have a much better hydraulic system, get one with a loader and 4 wheel drive you will be much happier ..

KUBOTA!!! I have Kubota, John Deere and CaseIH. One of each. The Kubota does more work than the other two put together. And after 18 years with no problems, it's still on the original battery.

I know this will cause issues (Tim) but a Mannhiem built will still kick a 5000 series butt down the lane.

The debate rages on...

In all seriousness, I'll have to agree with Tech 7 here. the Mannheim machines certainly have their horror stories, but in terms of their utility, ability, and overall usefullness (our 2550 is an 80 HP tractor in a 65 HP tractor's clothing), you can't beat it.

It all comes down to this: are you willing to accept the risk of the big failure in order to get the best utility tractors ever made (in terms of their ability)? Yeah, I said it

I should have worked for Deere's marketing department...

As long as the corrosion inhibitor has been maintained in the cooling system . And as long as clean uncontaminated Hy-Gard has been used in the transmission . The 2555 is as good as any .

When they are good they are Great,, when they are bad they are very bad,,and as they get older the Very bad is near...
