Almost ready to bite the bullet on a 4010 that was traded in to a dealer. Come to find out it was a friend of mine who traded it. I gave him a call and found out they did a complete engine and fuel system overhaul as he bought it not running. It is a 22T Standard model without 3point. The engine serial number is few hundred off the tractor serial #. Is that normal? Its a diesel.
Needs a few more little things according to my buddy but he used it to pull a planter and said it was a nice tractor. Sheetmetal is perfect and untouched.
Does anyone know how many 4010 Stds were made of the 58k or so 4010's total?
Thanks in advance, and if you can add anything to look out for please chime in.

If you don't buy it I will! Sounds like it should outlast you. Grandpa's 4010D is still going strong at my brothers place. It was always the easiest/nicest tractor to operate that we had. And that's compared to a 1206 IH, Case 800, and AC 190. Then when my uncle got a Case 1370, that was a game changer! Not really in the same category as a 4010 though. Only thing that age/size that would be better is probably and Oliver, but I've never been on one so just going by what I read from our online friends.

I would not worry about the engine serial number as Deere built the engines in a seperate part of the factory and broke them in before moving them to the assembly line. Often tractors were done in batches of the same engine type as well. Sounds like an interesting tractor that I am sure will do lots of work as well as have collectors value. I have an early 4020 standard here now with the round fenders and non adjustable front end. Tom

I have a 4010. My 1st big tractor from about 20 years ago now. I had to have the injector pump rebuilt, clutch, clutch fingers, pilot bearing and drive shaft replaced. Not bad for a 50 year old machine. One caution, the PTO stub cap screws can come loose while running which will shear an internal pin. I laced mine with wire. Some guys tack weld them. Do something to keep them tight permanently.
