John Deere 3020 12V Starter Options

Good day!

The 12V starter on our '65 3020 is getting pretty soggy so before it completely packs it in I'd like to round up a replacement. That said, I'm curious as to the aftermarket options that are out there?

I found that Tim S. had mentioned the Iskra IS 0663 sometime ago. Just wondering if you're still happy with those starters?

TIA

Yes, that is a 12 volt starter and it's short enough to work well on the 3020. and Solvenia is way better than China

Thanks Tim.

Who did you purchase the starter through?

Speaking of China, just had an "unsatisfactory" experience with some bearings so I can relate...

I do not like those as I had a housing snap off on one less than a year old. It caused the started gear to stick and ate the teeth off my ring gear.Tom

(quoted from post at 19:01:15 05/13/19) Is that gear reduction?

The gear reductions can be a mixed blessing . Gear reductions in general tend to have more torque but less cranking rpms than a typical direct drive .
The PM gear reductions are a little bit faster than the traditional gear reductions with energized field windings .
The Iskra as shown is the best all around starter for the 3020. 4Kw is the level of power that should be installed . Bigger is better.

Appreciate the feedback Tom.

Most of us are busy enough & don't need a make work project from a failure like that.....

Any recommendations as to distributors for the Iskra starters in Canada? If not, then in the U.S.?

. The AZG line of starters has even more power with 5Kw on 12V if there is clearance to fit the application .

FYI, to those who may be interested north of the boarder, Karam A.L. out of Saskatoon, Sask. carry the Iskra(Letrika/Mahle) line of starters & alternators among many other brands for the ag., industrial, and automotive worlds. Also, offering 24V to 12V conversion kits for the older Deeres I see.....
