John Deere 630

I fired up the 630 for the first time since complete restoration. She ran awesome but I have a few issues. First the power steering pump that i completely went through is leaking fluid from front seals. Yes I replaced all 4 in the pump. Shocked and depressed to see the drips from many long hours of work. As I started to take it all apart, I noticed engine oil in the fan shaft tube. Another disappointment with my findings. Ive replaced many seals before and not certain where I failed. This tractor was gone through from front to back with new seals and bearings. I was hoping for a leakproof job but failed miserably. Any of you guys have any opinions on my mishaps.

Did you replace the pump shaft? Grooves or worn surface could result in leaks. Also what direction were the seals facing? Lip on inside seals should be facing towards oil. Outside lips facing air. I wonder if both seal could be facing in for added insurance Been where you and took me up to 3 times to get it right. Not a fun job. The next one I did was good the first time.

Also if the relief valve isn't working that could blow the seals. Verify the relief spool in the valve housing is moving freely. John Deere service manual SM-2050 is a great reference.

I did notice in the short time the engine ran the power steering control valve got very warm. Only ran 15 min. Too hot to touch. I have not had gauges on the power steering system yet. I did steer the system with two fingers using the short shaft coming out of pedestal. I don't have the main steering shaft on yet.
