John Deere H Carburetor Choke Disk AR10065R

I was having trouble with my choke on the H. When I took the carburetor off, there was a part wedged in between the body and the choke disk. It looks like it is the flapper that is part of the choke disk. I m curious what the purpose of it is. Also, I think the larger opening on the disk should be down not up. Does the flapper go on the back or front of the disk. Is there any other parts missing? It looks like the sheet metal tabs that hold it in wore out. A picture of the part correctly assembled would be helpful.
Any advice?

Thanks

Your choke flapper is missing a little spring, that's why it feel out.

Some carbs used a choke flapper that opened outward to relive the pressure of a "backfire", but most opened inward to allow a little air to flow, even when the choke rod was pulled hard, all the way out.

Sure does look like the flapper is at the bottom in the drawing, but it probably doesn't make any difference.

I looked at the Robert's Carb site, his replacement choke discs have a small fixed hole that is at the top in the photo, whether that's how they recommend installing them, you could call and ask.

Solder the flapper solid. Will start and respond to choking better. Common on lot of different
makes of engines and carburetors.

Thanks to everyone for their input. If anyone has a picture of the assembly, I would appreciate it, especially the spring that I?m missing. I?m may try to restore what I have.

I have been able to buy just the spring from our local Ford New Holland dealer. They sell them separately for the 8N carbs. I know it fits some of the JD's but can't remember if it fits the H ?
