John Deere A hydraulic fluid

So what 80w 90 would work?

(quoted from post at 10:23:01 05/02/19) I forgot to say that the picture is of a pre 1947.

I use 80-90w gear oil in both my 49A and 1953 50. You can get it at tractor supply or about any auto parts store. Cheaper in the 5 gallon bucket but a bit harder to work with

Use 80 0r 90 weight in the transmission/differential. (7 gallons) Use 30 weight motor oil in the hydraulic system. (5 quarts) (fill until it drips from the test cock)

I have two A's and this is what I use. Quoting from operator's manual OM-R2002.

Mike, use the 80W-90. The UTF I use in the Ford because it's gears and hydraulics. It may be a little heavy for the hydraulic on the A but that's a low pressure and volume system. I'd think most any oil would work as long as it keeps the pump and valve wet.

I just don t want to contaminate the hydraulic fluid on the other tractors if I attached the John Deere to the haybine for example.

When I got my haybine (JD 1207) I tried to put it on the A and it would only extend the cylinder until it started to lift then stopped. When I got a manual I found it required 1400 psi min. and the A system is only 900. I ended up putting a remote line on the Ford.
